Any gas guru's out there? I was wondering what brand (Shell, Exxon BP, etc) makes the best gas....and who to stay away from.
To me, gas is gas, but I plan on buying my coupe soon, and would like some educated responses as to which brand is best for the engine, and possibly links to articles to back up your responses (if applicable).

All gasoline starts out the same, but the difference is the additive package each of the brands adds to its gas. All the raw gas in one area may come from one are two sources, depending on the population of the area. The oil companies buy raw gas from each other, and add the additives before the gas gets to the station.

I read an article by a chemical engineer for a major brand oil company. His advice is to stick with the major brands, but switch brands every 5000 miles. The reason is all additive packages will cause deposits to form in the fuel system, but a different company's package will disolve the deposits caused by the additives of the other companies. Rotating among four or five brands every 5000 miles will keep the fuel system clean.

I started with Shell, then switched to Amoco. Soon, I will change to either Phillips 66 or Mobil.
