Hi folks,

A new poster here, not an owner of a Benz yet, but met a guy on the road who had broken down. His 2003 C180 was stuck in Park, and would not shift into drive.

Engine warning light for engine (yellow) was on. Problem seemed to dissappear after a few minutes but the engine sounded like a diesel, very unsmooth, but it was a petrol model. Only out of garage after service - hoping they put oil into engine. Didn't get a chance to check oil, but will.

Anyone any ideas, only help I can give is that when it started up it wasn't idling properly, was dying out. Why should this be related to transmission?

Looking forward to hearing what the resident whizzes have got to say.

Neil.

Hope they did not drain the transmission oil but put the oil in the engine.

Do you see a little hole on the bottom of your shift gate? If yes, you can stick a pen in there and shift it out of park. Refer to your owner's manual and there are instructions.

The check engine light means something is wrong so you need to have the codes read.

If they drained the transmission fluid, but did not refill it, that would be a problem in it's self. Hope everything works out ok.
