I frequently go to places in St. Louis where I haven't been and don't know where they are. Businesses here often give an address that is in some strip shopping center instead of their actual street address. So the nav feature is useful to me. I looked at systems from Alpine, Pioneer and Blaupunkt. They were all over $3000 and closer to $4000. $1300 installed sounds pretty damned good to me.
I have seen pics of several aftermarket conversions in coupes. I don't care for the way they look. I prefer the stock appearance. In addition, once in a while the secure parking lot at work is full, and I have to park on the street in a poor neighborhood. The stock appearance is a great advatage over the "bling-bling steal me" appearance of the aftermarket units. Also, if it is stolen, the unit only fits in a few Mercedes models, and must be returend to Bosch to be unlocked before it is installed in another car. That is a real good theft deterent.
Use a flat panel? Where do you install it so that it does not advertise the presence of an expensive system, isn't easily stolen, and doesn't look like shit?
For those who want an aftermarket dvd system with a motorized display in the head unit, I recommend the highest priced Clarion. I saw one the other day, and it is awesome.
