Dash Warning

2576 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  GUY
On Sunday I had a warning light come on on my dashboard. The one shaped like a little engine next to the parking brake warning light. Looked in the manual and it said that it might be to do with the fuel injection system or that the emissions limits were being exceeded. It also said to get it checked out by my dealer.

Have made arrangements to take the car in to be checked. The dealer didn't seem concerned about the problem, just that it needed to be looked at.

Just wondered whether any of you guys have had the same problem, or could hazard a guess as to what it might be. Serious or not? Can I still drive the car a bit before it gets checked? - seems to be running fine.

Any input gratefully received.

Cheers

It sounds as if your dash display is a little different than those in North America. Below the tachometer are three lights. The left one is CHECK ENGINE, the middle is ABS, and the right one is BRAKE. If the CHECK ENGINE light is on continuously, but the car runs properly, you may continue to drive the car but have it checked at the shop.

There is one thing you can check for yourself. Make sure the gas cap is tight. If it is loose, it will cause the CHECK ENGINE light to turn on. Also, when filling the tank, take care to not overfill it. This will also turn on the CHECK ENGINE light. This will require a trip to the shop to fix.
The warning light actually went out on its own before I got the car checked. Dealer didn't say what caused it, but I reckon it may have been to do with the fact that I hadn't driven the car very much for a couple of weeks. After I gave it a good drive the light went out. Strange but true??

When the dealer plugged the car into their computer it apparently also told them that the speed sensors on the rear wheels/axle had got wet?! Being on the underside of the car you'd kinda think they would! Didn't seem to be causing a problem and they at least sorted me out free of charge. Just glad to have the car free of all problems (mere technicalities or not).

Cheers for the advice though.

Also, finally have decent pictures back of my car. Will endeavour to scan and send in this week.

Cheers
