I have a 1985 300D turbo with 135000 miles. Lately I started smelling diesel, so upon investigation I found a leak at the base of one injector, the one closest to the passenger's compartment. I have never worked on fuel injectors, so I have several questions: first of all do I need special tools?? Is there a gasket or a ring that might need replacing or should I replace the injector?? If I replace one injector, should I replace them all even though they are not leaking??

Thank you,

Bill

Bill, make sure you know for sure where the leak is. I would first check the injector return lines (fabric covered hose) that connects to the top of each injector. These lines with age will often leak. If the leak is at the connection of the line to the top of the injector the fuel could run down to the bottom of the injector and pool at that point.

Thank you very much, it is indeed one of the return lines which is leaking and it needs replacing.
