I am looking at almost classic Mercedes, early to mid 1980's. Most of those from this vintage are diesel, which I have been told are very reliable. However, I am considering a 1984 230e that has a gasoline 2.3 liter. Are the gasoline MB's as reliable as the diesels? The 230e has only 120,000 miles on it, which seems pretty low. I am in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

230e sounds like a euro-spec car. Is this a 2.3 liter 190E? Just curious....

Anyway, Yes, many other mercedes engines are almost as robust as their diesels. The caveats being maintenance an model specifics. I would have little qualms about getting a high mileage properly maintained Benz, and 120k is really not what I consider in the realm of a high mileage vehicle especially when considering miles per year for this case.

I am not sure. I am considering purchasing the car. The ad listed as a 230e. From what I have turned up, it is a euro spec car, but the speedometer is in mph.

I am not sure about the maintenance history. From my email correspondence with seller, I suspect he is in his early twenties and did not properly take care of the car.
