FSS & non-Synthetic oil Issue

Hi, New to this Forum, not new to Mercedes-Benz

Looking for information concerning symptoms and remedies of use of conventional oils on 1998-9 vehicles with FSS. There is MB settlement of a class action suit, where MB dealers were using non-pure synthetic oils for service. Anyone have experience on this forum?

Our 1999 E300 has had a recurring symptom of having a Minimum Level Oil warning about 2500 miles after scheduled A/B Service. Minimum Oil sensor was replaced at 4200 miles, but the indicator does comes on when level is at minimum stick level. (haven't trained the spouse to check the dip-stick :? )

Only have about 25K on the vehicle, all service via MB dealers - first in VA, and now GA. During first 12K, VA dealer used Quaker State 15W40b. In 2001 moved to GA where dealer has used Synthetic only. Dealer this past week said oil use may be related to the class action suit, with remedy to open up engine which we said no.

Does anyone else have this situation?

Note: we also have a 1980 300SD TurboDiesel - that doesn't burn oil with 200K mileage, albeit we change the oil every 3000 miles, or lately at 6 months.

re: Welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I had noticed before posting that you also had an '80 300SD and lived in the neighborhood. After moving back to Georgia, the '80 just didn't have enough zip to handle the increased 400 traffic, so my wife started using the '99 for her commute - at least it's getting some miles on it. We figure we'll keep the '80 until it croaks, other than the vacuum system always needing tweaking, it runs fine.
FSS Class Action Suit

Thanks. I have seen the $35 coupon deal, and possible extended warranties, but not much other detail. The suggestion to contact the complaintants is a good one. Do you have a URL that lists them?
Thanks. I had also found the link you provided but it didn't work then, and still doesn't now - maybe too long ago at this point. The URL I had found previously posted by AMSOIL relating to the 2001 class-action lawsuit settlement that still works is:

I think somewhere buried in a moving box is the notification I received as we got ready to move from VA to GA - but at that time we didn't realize we may have a problem. Right now it's more of an aggravation than serious problem - but concerned about future.

Thanks for looking up the info. Link is to Mercedes representation, but will check further when I have more time. Appreciate your efforts.
