I posted this elsewhere in the forum but I thought it couldn't hurt to post it over here and "smoke-out" the issue a bit:posted: Thu Jan 30, 2003 4:39 pm Post subject: High Capacity Radiator

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am researching a high capacity radiator with a reinforced neck for '86 SDL. Anyone have any suggestions on where to find something stronger and better than the stock Behr?

Hello Tigertank,
Welcome to Benzforum. I found your post interesting, as I have a 87 300SDL. Are you having problems with the quality of the radiator? I think the Behr is pretty much the standard. I knew there was a problem with the radiators on the 300e, where the neck on the original radiators would break, but they came out with one that is now reinforced with metal(copper,I think) inside the neck. Is this the same problem you are having? We can get the Behr radiator for you, just e-mail us at [email protected]. Again, welcome to Benzforum.

Ken

I've been running temps above 80 degrees C in town when running hard. I believe the radiator is original (159k miles) and am considering overhauling the cooling system (flushing system, replace water pump, replace thermostat, replace all hoses, and replacing the radiator). I've read somewhere that a higher capacity replacement is available with a reinforced upper neck. If I''m going to go ahead with the overhaul, I'd like to go with the best parts available.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue.
