I have a 1972 280SE and parts of the under hood liner are falling apart. Does anyone know if it contains asbestos?

I could not say for certain but given the year of manufacture I would not take any risks. To remove the lining use a face mask and protective eye glasses, cover your arms and hands. The least exposure you have to skin and lungs the better.
