Greetings all,

Re: 1998 c230

The a/c seems to work it's own will. The blower works, as does the engine fan, but the compressor won't kick on even when I alter my temperature settings. This moring it worked fine, now this afternoon it doesn't. And visa versa some days.

What the @#$% should I look for? Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The pressure is good as measured by an a/c shop. Everything measures fine, but they said the engine fan was not up to speed. So now the trouble seems to start there.

Any ideas as to what I should look at, that affect the fan's operation?

Thanks in advance.

check the relay. I'm not sure if your model has a clutch or if it has an electric fan. if it is attached to the motor, check the clutch. Is the fan running at all?

The compressor is good as it does work when jump started. But your right about the fan, it does not work at the lower voltages during initilal warmup. When I mimmick a running fan, the compressor works great.

Where would I get a compatible variable speed fan?

This board is the best!

It was the fan. Universal replacement motor and blades (16") from Pep Boys Auto for $89. Just had to splice into the stock pigtail connector and bolt into shroud.

Whew !! I can breathe easier now, and cooler.

Thank all for your onterest and input.
