It has been a long time since I have played with that car, but found an underhood pic of a 300D that should be analagous to your 240D. I circled the cable in the picture, but confirm I got the right one by tracing it back to the transmission. (Or somebody else can chime in).

OK, they are all the same picture. I am having trouble editing the extras out. A little help, Tony?

First off...thank you for the response. I'm sorry I'm just now replying to it.

Secondly...I ended up taking the car to a transmission shop, with a guy who's quite familiar with these cars. To my surprise, he informed me that my vehicle, indeed, does NOT have a bowden cable. He informed me the 1982 240D's transmission is controlled electrically. Now, that being said, he does acknowledge the vacuum's role in the quality of the shifts, via the modulator valve.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass along what I was told.

Thanks.
