The recall concerns 2011 Mercedes-Benz G550 and G55 AMG SUVs, which might pose a serious risk to passengers after the airbags deploy.
During a crash, parts of the molding strip could break loose and become projectiles shooting through the cabin. Owners whose vehicles were manufactured from September 20, 2010, through April 27, 2011 are among the affected and can expect to be contacted by Mercedes. The repairs will be carried out through the brand’s dealer network at no charge to the consumer.
Anyone with further questions can contact Mercedes at (800) 367-6372 or NHTSA’s safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
