My 1980 300D seems to be consuming a LOT of oil. I put about 700km on it in the last week and have poured 4 litres of oil into it. It leaks a little bit, but nowhere near enough to explain how fast the oil moves down the dipstick. I followed it home last night, and, although it did notice smoke coming out of the tailpipe, it didn't appear to be excessive. I mean, worn gas engines that smoke pour out big clouds of blue-black smoke. This one doesn't.

Other than spending more $$ on oil than I should, this doesn't seem to be affecting the car otherwise.

Any thoughts?

Wow! At least you don't ahve to worry about oil changes 8O

Assuming that it is not going out the exhaust or polling on you garage floor, a blown head gasket comes to mind as a possibilty, allowing the oil to escape into the cooling system. You might want to have a shop check into that...

I don't think it's a head gasket. We JUST changed it a month ago when we swapped heads.
