Whats that clicking sound when the pedal is compressed to the floor?
Something to do with the engine perhaps? Totally oblivious here..
*oh by the way.. i was on a legal race track testing the speed of the car when this occured*
also.. After had pressed the pedal until it Clicks, the engine becomes loud and after slowing down.. the Engine is still loud.

For automatic cars, the button under the throttle pedal is a transmission kickdown switch. There has been some speculation on the boards that it also affects the ECU causing slighly more power to be produced. I don't know if that is true or not.

The kickdown button sends a signal to the transmission ecu to shift down to the lowest possible gear. Thus, depending up on your speed and gear, it may shift down or not. The remaining question is whether if you depress the switch from a stop if it will hold the gear longer. Sometimes it feels like it does and other times it doesn't.

If you have the manual box, the switch turns off the speed limiter allowing you to accelerate beyond the preset speed.

i have an '87 260e. im wondering if my kickdown switch is working properly. as far as i know mercedes always starts at 2nd gear but if you floor the throttle pedal and hit the kickdown it should change to 1st gear right? but mine does not. but i noticed if im running 80km-100km and then floor the pedal it shiftsdown so maybe my kickdown is malfunctioning? is it the kickdown switch or theres something wrong with my transmission?
