Is this just an alignment issue? My coworker says that her tires are shot - and I checked them. They are almost completely bald. They were changed about 8months ago (so she says). As far as I know, that's an alignment issue... is this true?

On average, my CLK was lucky to get 9K out of its very pricey Michelin Pilot Sports. THe C gets only slightly more. If the car has performance tires on it, she is probably not too far off (depending on the amount of miles she puts on them). Alignment issues wil cause uneven wear across the tire. Not keeping the tire pressure within spec will also cause premature tire wear.

You don't say what year and model. Certainly alignment can and probably is the cause. If it is a later model with full traction and stability control, brakes and tires will wear out fast depending upon your driving style. If one tire gets worn, the system will go nuts and wear things out fast.

Merry Christmas,
