Just purchased a 2003 C240 and was thing about adding a radar detector. Normally I run the hot wire down to the radio fuse. My question is - does anybody know what the black box is on the windshield - behind the rear view mirror? I was wonding if maybe there was something in that box that I could tap into for a shorter run of the cord.

The rain sensor (if so equipped), and garage door opener are in there along with the interior lights, their controls, and the Teleaid button and microphone (if so equipped). Someone on another board wired his radar detector to the box, but it is not recommended. The wires in the box are too small of a gauge for the current the detector draws. The best thing to do is run the ground wire to the ground post on the dashboard fuse box and run the hot wire to the fuse 7 position of the fuse box in the left side of the trunk.
