My wife was following me one foggy day last week and noticed that one of my tail lights "looked weird". I told her I had the rear fog lights on (a nice feature by the way). She told me to look at it, which I did in the garage - and noticed that only the driver's side light was brighter. Anyone notice this? Should I have it looked at? Seems they should both brighten.

only the volvo's have two rear fog lights. all the mercedes have is the one rear fog light on the driver side. don't worry thats how it is suppose to be.

It's a german spec. It is for passing purposes on the Autobahn I believe. I too asked MB about this. Also, if you notice you can leave either side of the lights on during parking, this is also German spec in case you pull over.

You are correct. There is only on rear fog light because two could be confused with the brake lights. It is on the left so that overtaking traffic knows which side to pass.

You have to selectively enable the rear fog by pulling the light switch two stops and only the drivers side illuminates. I agree this is a great feature. Have your wife check the rear lenses again. Mine was warped and I only noticed as I actually my wife drive my car one evening. Took it to the dealer and they wound up replacing both rear lenses. One was badly heat warped (WOW 8O) and the the other only slightly, but enough to warrant replacement. Nice that they did both as I have the new '03 rears.. which appear different from the '02s.

To answer your next question..... I dunno how, they just look different and I noticed it immediately. :wink:

My wife followed me at night from CT to NC when we were driving down the coast in separate cars (I drove the Benz). She kept calling on the cell phone to see where I was in traffic up front so I simply turned on the rear fog.

It worked!

She said she was able to pull me out of a crowd about 3/8 - 1/2 mile ahead of her when two rear fogs would have gone unnoticed.
