We have a nearly new '05 S430 4-Matic (7K miles). We are having a recurring problem with the control system (radio, navigation, satellite memory, etc.) periodically resetting. Sometimes at startup, a message appears that says something like "there was a problem with some file" (or something like that). When that happens, the control panel will finally light up and everything functions normally except that all of the settings are gone (sat memory, seat memory, nav memory, etc). Mercedes diagnosed the problem as being a bad command system/module. They ordered one and installed it but less than two weeks later, it did it again.

Anyone else ever have or hear of this problem? We are taking it back it to Mother Mercedes but they obviously can't accurately dianose what is wrong. I thought the forum members might offer up a fix that worked for them for the same problem.

It is possible, as they put reman units in for warranty repairs, that you just got a bad one. They are normally spot on perfect and superior to some new units as they get updated when they go in to be remanufactured. If you are using a burned DVD this will happen as well. I would give them another crack at it, and then we will explore some other options. 9 times out of 10 a new nav unit will correct the issue.
