I have a 2001 E320 4matic. I know I need new shocks at the front. I did look at the shocks and it is inserted in the front springs. Anyone have replaced their shocks on a 4matic. Does anyone know the procedure in replacing the shocks. Do I need to compress the springs to get the shocks out. Is their any special tool I need to start the procedure at all.

Thanks

Ray

The front shocks is not something the average DIYer should do. You can get hurt if something goes wrong. That said, you will need a spring compressor to do the job. Have you ever done struts on a car before?

I have remove struts and replaced on my older car. That one have the struts and spring as one assembly. removed the assembly from the car and compressed the spring with a strut spring clamp. This one looks a different. The shocks is inside the spring but it is not an assembly. So this must be compressed while in the car, I think. Correct me if I am wrong.
