If you lost a key from your Benz, will dealer replace it? If so, how would it work..? Would they program it or something...?

yes, they are at/over $100 per key and they will have to be reprogrammed.
Is this covered by warranty or do you have to pay the replacement cost? :?:
YOU pay the cost if you lose it, break it (ie drop in water, run over with car), but if it stops working MB will replace it. The older keys that had the little button that you flipped out, like the audi's and VW's", were ordered via the vin number of the car. They new ones hat we have are "blank" and have to be programmed by the dealer.
Benz key

It cost over 125 dollars for the new key
u have to order it from the dealership
Each ignition switch has eight keys, and each key can be duplicated twice. After you use up the 24 keys, the ignition witch must be replaced.
Mercedes Key

Hey guys, how r u, i wanted to ask about my c230 kompressor.. i have the laser cut key, but im wondering if i can update it, and make it like the passat's key, or the s500, where u push the button and the key flips out... and ideas....
I purchased a MBZ 1997 S500 Couple, that is in very good condition and it runs great. However, it only came with one key and I'm worried that I will be stuck if I can't get another one made. I've checked with several dealers in my area as well as contacted the corporate offices of BMZ and I was told that Mercedez not longer supports the keys for this model as well as any other model that uses the Drive Authorization System. I also reached out to a place in Great Britan that claim they were able to create replacement keys for these cars but I needed to bring the car to them. So now I'm reaching out to anyone in the US that has access or the ability to make me a new key for my car.
Wth? That doesn't sound right... Also, my understanding is all MB for the last 20+yrs use the Drive Authorization System.
I'd look for some place/locksmith that codes keys, specifically MB keys, and see what they say. My guess is they'd know a lot more about it than the dealer.
If that fails then I guess you have two options; sell the thing or be SUPER careful with that key!

Go to this link below, this forum member has a similar car, and just went through a no key situation, which he recently fixed.

This guy, (jc220), is an expert at just about anything older Mercs, and he is in the UK. It's incredible what this guy can do, he has the information you need to get another key made. His Owners thread is super long, so go to the end and work backwards where he replaces the engine in his S500 coupe, gets it running, then has the key failure. This segment is on his page #29 and starts at post # 1402, Incredible amount of research and trouble shooting got him back running again, with the help of his locksmith who did reprogramming for him.

good luck

PS: If you want to find out what Joe has done, and what he is capabile of doing, start reading his owners thread from the beginning, he has an incredible amount of energy and ability to understand and fix anything. He has a fleet of old Merc's he maintains, and he's lately into S class cars.. (that forum is the E500board.com), I'm there as outrbnks as well

If you have VIN then any auto locksmith can do the replacement easily.
