I recently purchased a 1983 240d equiped with alloy bundt cake wheels. However, my lovely wife would prefer the retro look of the classic Mercedes wheel covers.
Question is this... can the wheel covers be installed omn the alloy wheels? Or do I have to also scrounge up five steel rims in order to use the wheel covers?
No they will not. They will pretty much fit on any steel wheel with the proper wheel diameter, but they will not work on alloys. You can probably find a set in a junkyard easily, for cheap!
So... being a newbie with the Benz, but also having owned and worked on a Landrover for many years, I realize there must be a few specialty Mercedes bone yards. Any suggestions?
Just curious...where are you? I have the opposite "problem". I have two 240D vehicles (one is a parts car) with the steel wheels / painted hubcaps. I would like to have the alloy wheels.
Thanks, and good luck.
