With heartfelt regret I must inform all that our local administrator Eric died on February 26th. from cancer.

He was a good friend and kept this forum going almost single handedly.

RIP Eric.

Eric's Funeral

Quoted from a fellow Mercedes-Benz forum friend who has worked tirelessly to arrange Eric's funeral and support his wife (widow)

A number of friends have asked about arrangements for Eric's funeral, which to say the least has taken quite a bit of organising. Everything is now finalised as follows:

Monday 29th April at St. Faith Crematorium in Horsham St Faith, Norfolk, UK.

The service will commence at 10.15

The Royal British Legion have given me and Eric's widow a great deal of support. They have also arranged for a member of Eric's regiment, The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, to attend.

I know Eric was a great admirer of Winston Churchill, and I have asked the celebrant to read the following:

“Let us accept the natural order in which we move. Let us reconcile ourselves to the mysterious rhythm of our destinies, such as they must be in this world of space and time. Let us treasure our joys but not bewail our sorrows. The glory of light cannot exist without its shadows. Life is a whole, and good and ill must be accepted together. The journey has been enjoyable and well worth making - once.”

― Winston Churchill

Eric liked Katherine Jenkins, and so we have chosen this version of 'I vow to thee my country' to be played in reflection.

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

Eric's widow, Qinmei, has asked me to thank everyone who has known Eric over the years and offered messages of support and sympathy during his illness and passing.
