Looking to buy a 300D 1991. The car is mint except when you step on it it accellerates fine but as it drops into or back into the next gear there is quite a clunk. The sales guy says this is normal for cars of this vintage. What about it. Also when at 40 miles per hour, when you step on it to pass there is no response from the tranny in that you would think it would drop a gear to give some passing upmf. I was wondering if there was some connection here to the vaccum system as the heater controls do not seem to make any difference as to where the heat came from. Help

Sounds like there may be a couple issues. From your description my first guess is that it is something like this:

Once that problem is taken care of, the other issues might resolve as well. If not, the transmission is somewhat easy to adjust from the engine compartment.

Also, it is imprtant to clean out the egr on that car occasionaly. As this part gets neglected, it will plug up and the turbo will not work as it should. This is also an easy prcedure.

If the A/C controls are failing, THAT could be a problem, since the dash has to be removed IF the vacuum servos fail. Careful diagnosis is important here.
