Hello fellow members:
I am having difficulties starting my recently acquired 1991 MBenz 420SEL which has 93K miles, single owner and was left outside in California for over a year. I managed to start it and drive 52 miles to San Francisco, died a cpuple of times and restarted. Now, with ignition on it will start when you hear pump(s) ticking, it idles for a while and then stops. If ignition is on and no ticking is heard, no start. Logically and verified by running it on starting fluid, I have a fuel pump problem. Question is, can just one of the two pumps fail and if so, after isolating which one, can I then replace the bad one? OR, do they work in such way (tandem) that failure of either means replacing both? Finally, any test you can think of to ascertain if fuel pump relay is failing? Hilfe, bitte; help please and thanks in advance.
