Thinking of purchasing an S Class. Mom has a 92 300SE.

Which of these would you fellas consider/buy?

Any years to stay away from, and is the 6 cylinder better than the V8?

Thanks for ANY input as this will be my first MB, stepping up from years in VWs...

Now I am leaning towards that 92 because of the lower mileage...

I suggest looking around more in private party listings in your local area. These prices seem a bit high and so do the miles. Also, if you can afford it, you cant loose with a well maintained 500 and 600 series. :D

2 of those are private listings, but they are higher mileage. Those listings are in Canadian dollars, and mileage is in kilometers...

Thanks for the input...

I can't recommend purchasing a 600 series without a huge surplus of cash. They are very expensive to maintain and will require a technician familiar with those particular models. This is a car for someone who is not concerned with money and has other vehicles to drive while it is in the shop or awaiting model specific parts to be shipped from the mother country.

In general, a 140 (up to '99) model S class will run you between 4-6000 per year to keep running properly (again, significantly more for 12 cylinder models). The 220 body (current) can be quite pricey as well. There are so many things to go wrong on these vehicles. If you have the money to properly take care of either model, few cars as as nice to drive on the highway. Whatever you look at, have the vehicle inspected at the MB dealer before making the purchase. I guarantee I could write at least a 5K estimate on any '92 S class that came into my shop.
