Speaking of yard signs:

MADISON, Wis. -- Madison homeowners are livid after vandals defaced their homes.

Someone burned an 8-foot-by-8-foot Nazi swastika on a home's lawn near where Bush-Cheney signs were posted. The vandals used grass killer to spray the symbol.

Several nearby homes were vandalized -- all were within a two-block radius on the West Side, near Ice Age Trail, News 3 reported.

State Republican Party officials claim it's the latest in a series of desperate acts by Democrats.

Homeowners are angry, but resolute in what they plan to do next.

"I just cannot believe that someone would take the liberty to do this," said homeowner Rob Schaeffer. "We're appalled that someone would choose to destroy our property because they don't believe in our political views. My signs are going right back in the yard. This is my property. We live here. We have rights."

Police are investigating the criminal damage and told the homeowner it will be investigated as a hate crime, which carries stiffer penalties.

Pretty lame.

I still crack up at the sound of "hate crime"-- as apposed to some crime that isn't hateful?

Due to the nature of your work, I suppose that oxymoron got old fast.

When did the newsies start using that term on a regular basis, early 80's? Seems to me that I start to hear and read about in college -- early 90's.

how do you know they were not practicioners of Falun-Dafa? (falun-gong)
or... vedic hindus?
nazis stole the swastika.

still, you're probably right- instigators trying to incite bad blood, and have done so. I'd guess they intended to suggest the bush/cheney crowd as being nazi, rather than using a nazi symbol against bush/cheney signs...

I used to play musical campaign signs as a young lad... switching the neighborhood's allegiences all around. tee hee. that's quite a bit more benign than this...

dumba$$ vandals.

Goofballs do nutty things when they feel pressured. The closer we get to the election, the more of this stuff you'll see.

What I think is a greater threat to stability than any number of rattlebrains is that the major parties have thousands of lawyers wandering around various states looking for voting infractions. How many days will we stay in court waiting for various party-affiliated biased judges to determine the election? Wanna bet?

We are gradually ceding the election process to the Supreme Court. Do we really want 9 old farts to tell us who we elected every four years?

Having recently witnessed at great length at least one person that follows similar behavior, IMO folks that do this kind of thing should be fined, jailed, and spend the next 5 years after they get out of jail receiving and paying for regular psychological treatment.

Since a very loud minority on the left constantly refer to the Bush admin as Nazis and Bush as Hitler, it's not surprising. It's simply a false analogy.

My guess is that it was impressionable teenagers who got their hands on some bleach.
