Hello, I am thinking of purchasing a 1984 300D with 240,000 miles. Is it worth it? They want $1500 for it. The owner says the engine runs great. Am I looking for trouble with this type of mileage? What problems should I expect in the near future with this car?

Thanks for everyone's help,
RobRod :D

Is the body in good shape? If so, it sounds like a good deal, even if it needs some work. First things that come to mind are timing chain and water pump and injection pump. The first two should probably be replaced as a preventative measure, and the third should be checked over for any leakage. It will likely have some sort of vacuum issue, whether it be door locks or the vacuum pump, neither of which is a big deal.

Also, check for any suspension bushing problems. Kind of a PITA to replace, but they are wear items that are often neglected. Valve adjustment is also often neglected and a minor fix.

Of course, do the usual checks that you would for any car regarding general condition.
