Anyone know where I can get this for a 126 chassis style car? 350SDL 1991. The automatic on it has died and Ive rebuilt 4 other cars like nissan maximas, renaults, rovers.

I just dont feel comfortable with opening this transmission without a manual.

I tried to search all over the net and all they seem to have is the original service manuals, which doesnt include anything to do with the transmission internals. Which suprised me.

Anyone got an idea of where I can buy something of this nature from?

Try your local stealership. They should have a transmission specific manual for your car that will be very thorough.

Tried that, they wont sell the manual. They say its for dealers only and supposedly the stuff is on mirofiche only.

Ive heard alot of people say that so I believe that part.

Cracker928:

The manuals that guy is selling are from ATSG, who sells them direct for around $20. Looks like the E-Bay seller has been getting $36-$40 for them. I received a comment from another list that someone had bought his from Matco for $16.

Those suppliers can be contacted at:
ATSG

Matco

Other comments I have received state that they would be rather cryptic to someone not thoroughly familiar with AT work. "Big holes of information that a DIY'er would need."

One thing to add to help you guys out and not make the same mistake I just made. The ATSG manual is horribly wrong on one part of the removal and is going to cost me to replace.

Basically in the bell housing when you remove the 8 13mm bolts to get the front pump assembly off, you are (according to the ATSG manual) supposed to take of ouf the bolts you took out and put then into these threaded holes and tighten them down, as you tighten them it should pop the front pump assembly off. Well its wrong, YOU CANNOT do that cause the threaded holes are not all the way through and are supposed to be used with a special mercedes tool to LIFT it out.

So I basically cracked the front plate cover for the pump assembly. Its alloy and cracked all the way through, definetely not usable anymore. Who knows how much im going to get ripped a new one for this one piece.

Here are pics to show you the mistake thanks to the manual.
