How do you plan on modding your coupe?

You should check into Brabus or Kleemann pulley kits! :D
Will probably leave mine fairly stock. Don't have lots of spare cash. However, I would like to add some HIDs. And if a decent dual exhaust solution were to present itself........ :?:

Will also think about changing brake pads to less dust prone ones.
hey im new here, i have been looking for more power since before I bought the car , so far the cheapest and naturaly most interesting one for me is the kleeman kit, do you know any other kits? any advice on which exhaust has the best sound?

I believe Renntech and Brabus, among others, make pulley kits. But I'm pretty sure Kleeman is the most reasonably priced. I recently read another post where an owner was very pleased with a Remus exhaust installed on his car.
Any idea where I can get more info on the remus , I was looking at the supersprint slk mufler, because it looks like the stock, and maybe the renntech one
Click on this link for the Remus Home Page. You can do a web search for country specific sources. The reader who used the Remus stated that it made a nice sound.

Don't know much about the other two manufacturers. Keep us posted on you decide. 8)
The cheapest pulley is not a kit, but just the pulley. It costs $350 and uses a 56" six rib belt available at most parts houses. It is an alloy pulley made by ASP Racing , a major manufacturer of aftermarket pulleys. It is the same diameter, but slightly heavier than the Kleemann pulley. HP increase should be a couple of hp less than the Kleeman.
So how does installing a pulley etc. affect ones warranty?
i ended up getting the renntech pulley. but it costs the most. 8O
i think warranty is pretty much screwed no matter what. i kept the oem parts so that i could return it back to stock if necessary.

kleemann - 1 year parts & labor (if installed at approved shop)
renntech - life of mb warranty or 2 years parts & labor (if installed at approved shop/dealership)

part of doing mods is taking responsibilty for your decisions. not for the faint of heart. having said that, i felt the renntech was the most reassuring.
how much do each of the kits cost

Young

how much did the renntech kit cost and did you get it installed by the dealership you bought your car from???

there's some more info regarding the different kits.

renntech sent me a list w/ a couple of dealers near me and i just picked one.
ECU upgrade

Has anyone successfully obtained more horsepower for their C230 coupe by upgrading the enginge chip? If so, what manufacturer (Renntech? Wetterauer?) Please let me know...
:D I got my Kleemann alloy pulley kit from Evo Sport for $799 and it is great. They claim 40 hp and I believe it. Pretty cheap for 40 hp!

The Wetterauer kit a pulley and fuel system mod, not a chip. The only chip I know of which is available in the US is the Upsolute. Only one purchaser as posted dyno results, and they were disappointing to many. The chart showed a small gain at high rpm's. On the other hand, nost purchasers report that they are happy with the chip. The cost is $500. An Australian company might have a chip for the car, and there is a German company, but they don't have an English web site.
Has anyone gone the Nitrous route? I am seriously considering not selling my nitrous system and putting it in the C230. Does anyone know how much HP the stock block can take?

Thanks,
Erik
A poster on another forum had a small custom made supercharger pulley and a 100 shot NOS system. He blew the engine. Apparently, he cause sever damage to the rings and pistons.

The block can take a lot of hp, but a lot of other parts would have to be changed to make really big hp.

You just convinced me to sell the nitrous...I had 100 shot before, but if the 230 can't take it, I won't chance it.

Thanks,
Erik
The consensus from those who have used nitrous on other cars is that the coupe can take a 50 shot without problems.

I think the problem with the engine that blew was that it was running at least twice the stock boost and the 100 shot.

Keep in mind that the cars I have been talking about are iron block 2.3's. So far, no one has modded a 1.8. Also remember that the 1.8 uses more boost than the 2.3
One thing about NOS...

It will give your motor the last laugh! If you can afford a new motor which is not cheap like Honda motors, experiment it with a very knowledgeable NOS expert on MB motors and expect to pay $$$ for his/her services.
