Window tinting, Radio Inference No AM some FM Signals

3853 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Lynn
I tinted all my windows the passenger side and the driver side including the all back windows. I knew that by doing this I would interrupt my radio signals. I can open/lock the car with the remote, but have to be very close to it. I love this car and I like it better with my windows tinted it makes the car look even more sporty. I have looked into getting an antenna amplifier installed on my front windshield, but I was told that presently there isn't an adapter for the stock radios. Does anyone know more about this? I hope I am not the only one that has tinted their C230 windows and is having radio signal reception problems. If this can't be solved, I will keep my stock radio to control my CD-changer and I am thinking to add satellite radio receiver, in the open slot bellow.

The effect of tint on radio reception seems to vary widely with brand and type of tint. You might have to try a different kind.

Thanks,.....But do you know of any specific tint brand or kind of tint that eliminates this problem?
A non-metallic tint might preserve your radio reception. But, this basically plastic, type of tint tends to turn purple after 1 - 2 years and gives that cheap look. There are newer ceramic based tints on the market. A dealer might have to tell you the effect on reception.

Lynn is correct in stating that the effect varies. Some folks have no problems, others can have either AM or FM (or both) reception modified.
One thing I forgot to mention is if the installer got any water on the electronics above the rear screen, they will be damaged.
